McHenry County Bicycle Advocates has been formed to advocate on behalf of all McHenry County bicycle riders. Our goal is to
help motivate the county, and the cities and townships within the county, to provide adequate accomodations both on the roads and in
the form of bicycle paths. In this time of high fuel costs and rising environmental concerns this is a very timely matter.
Our initial concern is the planned reconstruction of Rakow Road which will convert a two lane road with bicycle friendly shoulders into a four lane "curb and gutter" road with no accomodations for bicycles. The McHenry County Division of Transportation has left it to Crystal Lake and Lake in the Hills to provide a path next to the road. In the fall 2007 both villages said they would not fund a path. We are also watching the Vulcan Lakes development plans. Visit the Vulcan Lakes Page. What can you do? Attend the meetings and send letters. What can you do? Join us in our effort to get a path next to Rakow Road. Visit the Rakow Road Page, download the petition PDF and gather signatures. Report path and road related problems. Visit the Report Page. |
